Harvey Blonder and his two sons, Mike and Kevin, want to lease the 5,000-square-foot-building from the city and offer a mix of fresh produce, seafood, meats and other grocery goods and prepared foods.
"It would have the same vibe as the old Market House," Mike Blonder said.
The family has reached out to the city but it has not yet responded to the proposal.

Let me get this straight... The city is $9,000,000 in debt, and people are losing their jobs, and yet, something that could very well take a load off of the city's shoulders, and also provide people with jobs has come along, and... Wait for it... SHOCKER!!!! It is denied. Annapolis is the most self destructive city I have ever seen. The city, and the people who run it, can't get out of their own way. I could probably find a monkey with a learning disability, and he could do a better job running a city than the worn out clown shoes we have in charge presently.

NO, he doesn't! That home has been entirely modernized. The only thing "historic" about it is the exterior stonework. He even sold his yard to develop into lots where 3-4 houses were built on very small lots. Why would you want that right out the window of your historic home? That shows me he'll do ANYTHING to turn a buck. Did he need it that bad? Hmm...
There was nothing wrong with the old businesses in Market House (pre-Moyer debacle). Bring THOSE types back! That is what we hear, over and over, that people want to see when they go Downtown! Don't we deserve good, fresh food at Market House?

A head shop would fit in my legalization of medical marijuana clinic idea, I support it. Back in before the world became so over regulated and before Annapolis became a victim of the Malling of America, downtown had two great places to buy marijuana accessories "UPSTAIRS" and a cool little place ( where the nature company was) called the Wicker Basket".
Legalized marijuana, the taxation thereof , and the overall increase in consumer and specialty tourist traffic could make annapolis a really great place to live again.

That being said I don't think he got to where he is without having any Business Sense but my only concern is that if he and his sons took over the Market House it would become more like a Commercial Venture and less on a more personal level (i.e. The Gap,Banana Republic) which used to be located in his properties.

When reading about the possibility of the Blonder family taking over the Market House, I was given new hope for Downtown Annapolis. I have run a local marketing company, Landmarks Marketing, and have had the opportunity to work with the Blonder family for over 20 years and have constantly been impressed by their business skills and community involvement. They are exceptionally solid and smart business people to work with. Our business relationship has expanded into a strong personal relationship. From Buddys to Yellow Fin to Big Fish they have a flair for knowing what will work in what situation. If anyone can make the Market House what it should be and turn it into a long term success, the Blonder family can.
I would not only throw my full support behind this as a concerned local business and citizen but I fell so strongly about the importance of this project I would volunteer advertising support for this. Landmarks would provide a FREE full page presence for the Market House in our hotel publication that is placed in 6,000 hotel rooms and read by over 2 Million visitors for the first year. if the Blonders want it, then it's a viable money maker. You can bet if there's a buck to be made there, then they have sniffed it out. Just goes to show you how bad this property has been managed in the past, and all it will take is some sensible business management to have it be successful. The market house is an extremely important part of the image and allure of downtown. The dirty, stinky old market house is exactly the way it still should be; authentic, rustic, and real. If that's what the Blonder's plan on doing that then fine. I've never heard anything good about those guys but so what, business is business. Anything that would bring back a hint of authenticity to the outdoor mall over run with corporate franchises and disgusting, bland restaurants would be a welcome improvement. I really miss the old Annapolis of my youth.

I remember my mom kicking all of us kids out with my dad, on the holidays, to go eat oysters at what is now the Market House. She would get her stuff done, while we would mingle with the crowds and eat good food. It was a real, authentic, Annapolis experience. Our city could profit from some good seafood, maybe some good beer, and some good local products being sold there. I can't for the life of me understand why this wonderful city can't have a thriving business in the center of town.

Market House will bring plenty of interest, quickly. Agree with several that Mr. Blonders current operations.... might not be a good match. The site perfect for food marke, providing essentials and catering to city residents, boaters and tourists. It should be on the fast track. There will be plenty of interest. There's no need for another commission, or panel. Set the type of operation,(no bar or restaurants) Oversight should be minimal, set the rent and tenant does everything on the physical plant.

The Blonders first need to clean up the establishments they already have. Safety and Sanitiation is a major issue in their restaurants. I have been in the business for many years (a few with them) and all I have seen from them is just enough cleanliness to squeek by health department regulations. It is discusting. Please do not let them contaminate a new Market Place, that could have some real potential.

The mayor should be focusing his short term solutions and grand visions on something more important than 2,000 square feet on city dock. How about figuring out a way not to lay off city employees. If the Market House truly is one of the most desirable locations in Annapolis, it shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to make it succeed. Let local retailers put in bids. How about a mini fresh market or whole foods location? Annapolis Seafood would make sense. I'm afraid the Blonders are looking for some sweetheart deal so they can drive business to their other locations. They aren't going to want to sell affordable crab cakes there if it means losing the business at Buddys. Get some competition going.

when I was researching the market house and the harbor master office I discovered that at one point the harbormaster was responsible for responding to needs at the market house. Interesting.
I don't think Harvey and his sons would screw it up any worse than Ellen did and Harvey ( who lives in a historic home outside of Annapolis BTW) probably has a great sense of what it takes to ventilate and cool a hot restaurant.
