"After they talked to me, I didn't know anything about it. I thought that it was a sport for boarding schools that could board the horses on campus," Boyd said, adding that he knew of a couple schools north of Baltimore that had riding programs - but those schools have barns on campus.

"But then I did some investigating and thought that it seemed similar to what we do with the sailing team at school," Boyd said, noting that...

Wheww, I am glad the government is not helping students to get involved with a sport of us upper-economic strata types. The last thing we need is the government helping people that can't achieve things on their own. I should have read more carefully.

Fred... Nowhere in the article is government indicated or implied to be involved in team equestrian sports.

Yes, riding is expensive even without owning the horse, and requires plenty of time and effort on the part of both student and parent. But it certainly isn't reserved for the upper crust. Folks who want to make it work, make it work.

And needless to say, but I'm saying it... your curve ball with Health Care is a non sequitur.

Thumbs Up. - 2010-03-16 14:59:48

Per the InterSchool Horse Show Web site: "While some schools recognize their riders as a team with financial support, varsity letters and a page in the year book, other schools recognize the activity as a club."

I applaud the local community with getting involved in InterSchool Horse Show Series. The dedication these young equestrians are displaying should be praised, not chastised.

This is a sport reserve for us upper-crust members of Anne Arundel Society y'all. as with health care if you are not able to afford the sport it is not for you. We do not need gov't run healthcare and we don't need gov't provided equestrian sports. Get the gov't out of the equestrain sport business.
