Spring arrives at the vernal equinox today, officially marked at 1:32 p.m. and punctuated later in the day by a potentially pungent sock burning by boaters and wannabees inhabiting Eastport.

Equinox means "equal night" and technically the celestial observance occurs at the moment the sun hits the Equator when the day will be evenly split between dark and light.

Weather prognosticators also predict equanimity this spring season, marked by an equal chance of below, or above normal temperatures and precipitation.

The equinox has been observed in one way or the other for thousands of years. The Egyptians built The...

no socks - 2010-03-20 14:20:44

By burning and not wearing socks Eastporticans harm our enviroment and their feet.

The smoke from a burning sock is toxic and also add unnecessary carbon into the atmosphere. I also think it is illegal to have a burning of any sort without a permit from the fore dept.

Also, the incidence of foot odor will increase when socks are tossed aside. the foot sweats and as it does the skin softens and sloughs off, the mixture of foot sweat and dead skin mix together to form a smelly past that creates havoc with the sense of smell. Stinky feet abound in Eastport in Spring and summer.

Also the smelly , cheesy environment created within the shoe is a perfect environment for Athlete's foot and fungal growth.

We must stop the traditional sock burning for the good of all man kind.

People on Josh's side of the bridge abhor this type of wild abandonment. We must form a _STOP THE BURNING OF THE SOCKS idea team quickly. !!!!
