Obama awards Mids 7th straight trophy

WASHINGTON - It has become customary for the president to honor championship sports teams throughout the year. NCAA champions and Super Bowl winners alike are welcomed to the White House to be recognized for their achievements.

Scott Applewhite — Associate Press President Barack Obama is presented a Naval Academy football jersey by Osei Asante, a senior from Houston, as the Naval Academy's 2009 football team is honored with the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy for victories over Army and Air Force. The ceremony took place in the East Room of the White House, Monday. The Midshipmen have won a record 15-straight service academy games dating back to the 2002 Army-Navy game. Head Coach Ken Niumatalolo stands at right of President Obama.

The Naval Academy football team has become quite accustomed to the tradition, with yesterday marking its seventh straight appearance at the White House.

Navy was once again celebrated for capturing the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy as winner of the service academy football series with Army and Air Force.
