Naval Academy plebes yesterday crawled in trenches under barbed wire, paddled inflatable boats on the blustery Severn River, and did push-ups in the mud as part of the annual endurance exercise called Sea Trials.

Starting at 3:30 a.m. Naval Academy plebes endure 30 exercises during Sea Trials 2010 - the capstone of their freshman year.
The 14-hour ordeal started at 3:30 a.m., with more than 30 exercises taking place from one end of the academy to the other, and on Greenbury Point.
One part of Sea Trials took place in the academy's swimming pool, during which the mids had to demonstrate their ability to survive in open water, and to free objects that were trapped beneath the surface.
