Downed power lines on Ritchie Highway in Arnold hung low over the road around 8 p.m. following a violent storm that blew through the county yesterday afternoon, causing traffic in the area to be diverted.
The storm blew through just after 3 p.m., sparking a flurry of calls for toppled trees, blocked roads, power outages and other problems.
As of 9 a.m. today, about 21,000 customers in Anne Arundel County were still without power, while 39,000 had their power restored.
Anne Arundel was hit hard with power outages, along with Prince George's County, said Linda Foy, a spokeswoman...

trees down - 2010-07-27 14:08:46
I had a hugh tree come over into my yard and damaged my fence by the Catholic Church down the street. I called them and they told me that they were not responsible. The tree was dead and they have not taken care of the woods back there in over 20 years. Good Neighbors. A little of subject but I had to vent.

BGE response - 2010-07-27 11:48:29
My electricity went out around 4:00 Sunday. Power was restored at 7:30 am Monday. I am quite pleased with the response, given the size and power of the storm.

Major storm blows through the area. 4 People are killed. 100K are without power in the state, due to the hundreds of fallen trees. Nobody likes to be without service, but it takes time to repair power lines and get service restored.

Waiting on a tree trimmer is not an acceptable excuse. It shouldn't take 12 hours to find someone who will do the work. Mr.T it is obvious you did not make any calls to area tree trimmers yesterday or today. Also when it is 100 or 110 degrees out would you want to have to cut your way through thick brush and who knows what else or 3 to 4 feet of snow out in the woods to reach a downed power line that needs to be repaired. NOT ME!!

The private energy industry is proven to be inefficient, incompetent and too expensive. How much did the guy in the truck get paid while sitting in his truck from 3 a.m. until 4p.m the next day when the tree trimmers arrived? Power outage from 4pm to 4pm isn't acceptable. "Waiting on a tree trimmer" is not an acceptable excuse. It shouldn't take 12 hours to find someone who will do the work.
