A man approaches elderly people outside home improvement stores, pleading for them to help him.
He tells them he has locked his keys in his car and just needs some quick cash so he can go and buy the equipment needed to break into his car.
But it's all a lie, county police say.
Instead, county police say that Robert Warren Bayly Jr. disappears with the victims' money after they hand it over.
"He plays on people's emotions. He should be in Hollywood," said Clement Hamm, who was tricked into giving Bayly $80 in June. "He's good, but he's...

I probably would have helped him too - even knowing its a 50/50 change of it being a scam, I would rather risk being a sucker than not be a good person.
Karma will always catch up with you.
Dear cohabitants of our beloved land - don't let jerks like this make you afraid of being a good Samaritan.

pathetic hole where a human should - 2010-07-30 07:37:44
Following are some, but not all, of the behavior characteristics that serve to define a sociopath:
Glibness and Superficial Charm. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used.
Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible.
Feels a strong sense of entitlement.
Pathological Lying. Has no problem lying and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.
Lack of remorse, shame or guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. They do not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities.
Need for stimulation and a feeling of "living on the edge"
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.
No sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.
Not concerned about impacting others' lives. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause.
They do not accept blame themselves, but blame others, even for acts they obviously committed.
Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Conventional appearance
The worthless, defective, and cowardly "person" described in this article certainly meets these criteria and probably more. Preying on the naivety, weakness, and innate desire of others to be helpful is the hallmark of the quintessential coward.
When caught, which he will be, this scum should be sentenced to work in the laundry area of a nursing home doing only the pre-sorting.
What a waste of oxygen he represents!

It's not often you see someone actually spell out an affectation while writing. Working "y'all" into yet another out-of-stater's criticism of Maryland takes a commitment to staying in character. Well done!
