City's only public swim team celebrates diversity, success

The Truxtun Park Penguins - the only public swim team in Annapolis - has built a reputation for being fun, diverse and welcoming. Now, this year's team can add one more description to that list: undefeated.

The Penguins, a group that has grown from 22 to 200 swimmers in five years, went undefeated for the second time in team history.

"For some reason, the formula that we've got is working," said Hilary Yager, who coaches Penguins age 6 and under.

Yager attributed the success to the community spirit she said defines the team. Unlike most neighborhood swim teams, the Penguins pull swimmers from all over...
