"Based on complaints about underage drinking at downtown establishments, officers went to four places requesting ID from people who looked 21 or younger," city police Lt. Brian Della said.
The crackdown found five customers at Armadillo's using fraudulent driver's licenses among the 14 people checked, Della said.
In all, police checked the identifications of 43 patrons at the four establishments.

Excellent post, but Maryland is currently a sanctuary state, and as long O'Malley resides in the Governors mansion, that will not change. Do not expect the Capital to ruffle the feathers of Mr O'Malley anytime soon.

real id problem - 2010-07-31 13:58:54
Just read your article online about the fake ids. Why don't you do a story on the fake ids that illegals use in this area. All they have to do is pay $200 to $250 to get a fake id and a social security number that matches a real name of someone in the irs database. Then they can work for dirt cheap and the employer is following the right guidelines knowing full well that person is illegal but noone comes to check the id's. The employer only needs a photo id and a real social security number, thats why these people have two seporate names cause one is the fake on and the other is the real one. Then they claim 6 dependents on their paychecks so hardly any taxes are taken out and employers pay less money. Why dont' we do a real story about a real problem in our area? Kids have been using fake id's for decades why dont you go ask the city about the real fake id problem in annapolis and not this poppy cock bull$%^ that wastes tax payers money. I have lived here for years and read this paper everyday and i've never read about the real problem in annapolis........the illegal population is out of control. Why don't you do a real story on fake ids and expose these people for who they are and what there doing to this area.....or are you just like the res of the people who are going into foreclosure so you rent youtr house out to ten people that will pay u cash on time....or are you a business going under so you hire someone for 7$ and hour instead of an american citizen just to keep your business alive. Just drive down forest drive and explain why theres a 45 year old man who cant speak a lick of english with winter clothes on in the dead of summer.....oh he must be a legal citizen.....

Bad law - 2010-07-31 12:47:25
"the liquor board could fine me. We did our job and we could face a fine or loss of business."
That part of the law needs to be changed - if the IDs are that good then the bar should be exempt from a fine as long as they tried to seek out the fakes. The owners cannot be expected to call the MVA for every license ensure it isn't fake.
