Meteorological tradition measures any month's thermal record by averaging the daily temperature. They take the day's high and low temperature, divide by two, and determine the average temperature for the day.
Average all the days of the month and, well, you get the picture.
So. Based on that mathematical high jinks July, 2010, which ends today, will likely miss the mark as the hottest on record.
It might be second. We'll know more Saturday.
