Gambrills family gets home makeover

Kathleen and Michael Barry's only desire was to get handicapped bars installed in their bathroom to help their disabled son.

Their Gambrills home was remodeled by the Partnership for Housing Foundation so that Danny, who is disabled, could get around. The Barrys also have a 16-year-old son, Ryan, who is not pictured.

They applied to the Partnership for Housing Foundation and told them all about Danny, who suffered a brainstem injury as a child.

As a result, the Gambrills family was accepted into the organization's Maryland Home Makeover program, which, like a scaled-down version of the TV show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," helps homeowners with basic repairs and renovations.

The work - which resulted in a new section of the house devoted entirely to Danny - began in July and was completed...
