Vernon Johnson, one of two former seniors charged in connection with the assault, was ordered held yesterday at a juvenile detention facility until he is rehabilitated or turns 21.
But until a bed becomes available at one of three such facilities in Maryland, Johnson can continue to live with his mother and stepfather in Annapolis. While waiting, he must wear an electronic ankle bracelet that monitors his whereabouts.

Ok The cheerleading is getting a little tiresome. Sorry...
It's perplexing to me that even though we live in one of the most liberal counties in one of the most liberal states that there is still a shortage of schools where we need them, i.e. West County. Both the county and state have been run by Democrats for decades. I was sort of under the impression that the Democrats only cared about the children and that basically everything that they do and think is for the children.
Doesn't make sense that every week, maybe every day, there is something in the paper about overcrowded schools or someone down at the board of education needs more money for something.
Begs the questi... How are those Democrats really working out?

I went to SRHS when they started busing students from Arundel to SRHS. They did not want to be there, and we didn't want them there. I lived in West Shoreham Beach for the first 22 years of my life and I could have walked up the street and bought a variety of drugs. Shady Side, Edgewater, Crofton, Annapolis, Riva, etc; it is the same anywhere in AA County. Anyone who thinks differently is simply deluding themselves.

Both Crofton AND Edgewater have drugs in them, have criminal youth, criminal adults, etc. Those in Annapolis who have climbed onto their high horses should look at Eastport Terrace, Newtown 19/20, Robinwood, Clay st, Bay Ridge gardens, Bay Ridge proper and then perhaps you'll get a better idea of what is actually going on around you.

Newsflash.... Edgewater is drug central. Ask any child in South River High School where they can buy drugs and it wont be Crofton, it is Edgewater. There are tons of cheap houses and young parents in Edgewater and a good percentage of those parents supply drugs and alcohol to there kids. Most Crofton teens go to parties in Edgewater because the parents are home and allow it or they are out partying themselves. Do the reasearch.

It is a fact that Jacob Dick stole the victims Ipod on the bus a few days before the incident. The victim and his father went to Jacob Dick's home to retrieve it as a good parent would. While they were there Jacob Dick attempted to assault the victim and threaten him. Jacob Dick made continuous threats to the victim while at school then eventually viciously attacked him. The victim was already afraid of Jacob Dick and the administrators at SR already knew about the theft and attempted assault.
As far as these thugs being "bused" in, Jacob Dick lives in Gambrills in a million dollar community that was already in the SR district before the changes and Vernon Johnson lived in SR district also. To insinuate this incident happened because of "Crofton" kids is completely absurd, it happened because these two thugs are just that..... THUGS!

.....the one pushing this other kid around and stealing his things, got into a fight with this kid, knocked him down before the fight got broken up, and while a girl was helping the kid up, Johnson ran over and sucker punched him?!?!?! He scuffed the girl up who was being a good samaritan? Now this kid cant see properly and has brain trauma? And Johnson gets to stay home with mommy and daddy? No way, Jose, there should be a provision to send him AT LEAST to Ordanance road so he can see what its like hanging around with other people who do that. An unguarded blow to the head can kill someone, especially if they arent expecting it.

Well, you obviously have some "beef" with Crofton students...not really sure why, but I did know that...its called wishful thinking. I think everyone in the county would like schools to not be overcrowded, but its impossible. We could mention other schools too...why do you believe that this assault was a result of students being bussed to South River...as you stated in your title "Shouldn't of been there" Maybe you should write to the Board and go to the Board meetings to stress your concerns.

South River did not originally take students from Crofton. All Crofton students went to Arundel HS until it became too crowded and they started bussing half of the students from Crofton to South River. If they ever do build a Crofton or West County HS those students would go back to their original district. I would think you would know that working for the county and all.

Dixon..you might want to get a couple facts straight before you make remarks or judgments on other local areas. I am not defending what happened at SRHS, but wanted to correct your incorrect comments.
First- South River High School is composed of students from Crofton, Davidsonville, Mayo and Edgewater- not ones being bussed from other places..but actual students who are on the district line for attending SRHS. The rest go to Arundel High or Annapolis High. It all has to do with boundary lines.
Second- You speak of a school being built in Crofton? That was proposed so long ago and will never happen unless home builders pay for it. If you haven't been listening..the county is in major debt.
Lastly- There are so many high schools that accept "bad behavior students" from all other schools. How do I know this? Because I work for the county. This stuff happens everywhere..not just "crofton, Gambrills and Annapolis" like you speak of. Actually our Blue Ribbon School of this year...Severna Park High School contains problem students from Annapolis High and Old Mill High.

It is my understanding that both of the thugs were from other school districts and were bussed to South River. South River was a Blue Ribbon school before they started bussing in "students" from Crofton, Gambrills and Annapolis. I hope the county goes ahead and builds that school for Crofton so we don't have to take in their miscreants.
