Talk about tying the knot. Two county firefighters who began dating at last year's annual tug of war competition got engaged in front of throngs of spectators yesterday.

Austin Andrea, front, leads the impromptu Downtown Barhoppers team due to the fact that the real team didn’t show up. The replacements defeated the Fourth Street Bars team from Eastport in the 14th annual “Slaughter Across the Water” tug of war yesterday.

"I saw my family there and said 'What are you guys doing here?' Then I saw him down on one knee," county firefighter Reba Hause said of suitor and fellow firefighter Nathan McKinzie.
The proposal was part of the action on the Eastport side during the 14th annual "Slaughter Across the Water" tug of war contest between Annapolis and Eastport.
