The City of Annapolis has more than 30 parks and over 200 acres of park land. In Truxtun park the city is currently building a new recreation center. The 80,000 sq. ft. facility will feature a three-court gymnasium, a rock-climbing wall, indoor track, fitness center, indoor playground and meeting rooms. The center is expect to be completed late in 2009.
Besides the soon to be completed recreation center, Truxtun Park features an outdoor swim center, boat launch, walking trails, tennis courts and skate park.

The park, created in 1990, was once home to the city's wastewater treatment plant. It features environmental education resources where visitors can learn about watershed conservation and restoration. In 2005 and 2006, 550 feet of shoreline received bioretention techniques to naturally filter runoff. The project has acted as a showcase featuring aquatic grasses, perennials native shrubs and bio-logs.
