Situated on Chesapeake Bay, the Downs Park offers a variety of natural and recreational activities throughout its 236 acres. Downs Park offers more than five miles of paved and natural trails, including a self-guided nature trail. The park also has a children's playground, 4 handball courts, 2 ball fields, 2 tennis courts and 3 basketball courts available to visitors on a first-come, first-serve basis. Active volunteer groups include the Friends of Downs Park, the Garden Society, Volunteers-in-Park and the Downs Park Quilters Guild. Park Fees:Daily Vehicle Entry Per vehicle $4 Daily Physically challenged * Per vehicle $2 *(MVA tags or hanging permit required) Annual Vehicle Entry Permit Per vehicle $20 Senior Lifetime Pass (Age 60+) Per person $30 Senior passes and annual permits are also valid at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis.
Facility Rentals:Four pavilions, a Wedding Garden, a Youth Camping Area and a meeting room are available for rent. For fees and availability, call the park office.Adopt-An-Owl: Help feed and care for the permanently injured owls at Downs Park by contributing to the Adopt-An-Owl Program. These birds have received injuries, which render them incapable of surviving without our help. Choose from three levels of contribution. Call Ranger Bishop for more information.The Friends of Downs Park FODP is a park advocacy groups that supports Downs Park through fund-raising activities and volunteerism. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm in the Chesapeake Room. Call the park office for more information. The Downs Park Quilters Guild The Quilters' Guild meets every Friday at 9:15am in the park's Chesapeake Room. Learn how to quilt and make new friends. Call the park office for more information. Downs Park Exercise Circuit Downs Park has installed a brand-new exercise station circuit along the park's 3.5 perimeter trail. With 10 stations in all, the circuit can be adjusted to the athletic and fitness level of the individual. The park is open from 9 am 'til dusk (closed on Tuesdays) and the equipment can be used anytime during these hours. Funding for the new equipment was provided by a grant from International Paper based in Odenton, Maryland and the Friends of Downs Park. Preschool Nature Hour Join Ranger DeVault for education and fun as we learn about nature's wonders. Programs are held once a month and include a related discussion, hike and take-home craft project. Most sessions are free, although the park entrance fee does apply. For children ages 3 to 5 years old. Pre-registration is required. A parent or guardian must attend. Junior Naturalist Hour Join Ranger Bishop for her monthly program for children ages 8-11. Programs will include a discussion and an educational game related to that month's topic. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. You may register by calling the park after the first of each month. Park entry fees apply.
