I am so proud and so disappointed at the same time. There are some Blade-News readers who get bent out of shape when I write about the rivalry between the Bowie Bulldogs and Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders --- whether boys or girls sports. The rivalry is indeed there, and tonight it took another step deeper into its own lore tonight.

The Bulldogs baseball team enjoyed a phenomenal season in which so many new players and the subsequent adjustment in chemistry were introduced to the dynamic of the...

Baysox @ Richmond

The Bowie Baysox played their first ever series at Richmond this weekend when they faced the Flying Squirrels at The Diamond, just a few miles outside of downtown Richmond.

I was on the Baysox bus trip today to watch the series finale. Richmond, a team Bowie took two of three games against to start the 2010 season, swept the Baysox in this series.

Ryohei Tanaka got the start for Bowie, but after giving up Richmond's first hit --- and run --- in the third inning and beyond, the...

Silver Spring is way far out of the way --- like all the way on the other side of Laurel. What a trek!

If you're running a 5K, it's likely you won't mind a bit of a drive, especially around the scenic D.C. beltway!

So: The 13th annual 5K Fun Run-Walk will be held at Sligo Creek Park this Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The Run-Walk benefits the "academic, therapeutic, vocational and fitness components of the Pathways Schools program," according to the information...

For three Bowie High track team members, the worst of times can sometimes be the breast of times.

Senior Rachel Jordan and juniors Deborah Fajuyigbe and Lanesha Edwards are using a serious and life-threatening ilness to have a little fun together while raising money to hopefully help put an end to breast cancer. The trio will participate in a 39-mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Washington, D.C., May 1-2.

As is the case for most people who participate in breast cancer benefits, the...

Starting pitcher Jordan Maslanik gave up three hits and Jonathan Smock hit an inside-the-park home run to power the Bulldogs to their seventh win in eight games to start the season.

High Point cut its seniors from the team last week for reasons unknown, and Bowie had no issues exploiting the new-look HPHS roster, comprise mainly of freshmen and sophomores.

"I thought (High...

Bowie (9-1) is off to its best start in the team's 18-year existence.

Today's 3-2 win over Akron was highlighted by an absolute blast off the bat of infielder Brandon Waring that brought in two runs and he added the go-ahead RBI.

Nothing is going right for the Harrisburg Senators while the Baysox can seemingly do no wrong.

The Baysox (4-1) used a strong outing from starting pitcher Tim Bascom and some wacky base running to earn a 5-2 win over the Senators, who dropped to 1-4 this season. The Senators' lone win came Sunday with Stephen Strasburg on the mound at Altoona.

The fun started in the third inning when Harrisburg DH Dan Nelson reached base on a single when Bascom chased Nelson's ground...

Here is the thing with Stephen Strasburg --- he is a baseball player. Granted he is likely going to be a great pitcher, whether for a few seasons or an entire career. But the way the Washington Nationals are guarding this kid is bordering on ridiculous.

Just within my grasp today (probably not really) was the opportunity for a one-on-one interview with Strasburg, but the Nats put the end to that fairly quickly. This was after I was asked to submit a formal request for the interview.

What...
