Son of waterman writes history of Kent Island

Queen Anne's County amateur historian Brent Lewis stood under the large oaks, maples and sycamores that shade Broad Creek-Christ Church Cemetery on Kent Island.

"This spot is the oldest living connection to Kent Island history," Lewis, author of the new book, "Kent Island: Stories from the Chesapeake," said as he looked over the moss-covered graves, where many of the tombstones have crumbled into dust.

Judge to determine if mother was insane

A Queen Anne's County judge will decide later this month whether a Kent Island woman was legally insane last year when she poisoned her 3-year-old daughter, then tried to kill herself.

Victoria Adele Sparrow, 43, of Stevensville, waived her right to a jury trial Tuesday and agreed to let Judge Thomas G. Ross determine if she was "criminally responsible" for her actions inside her home on Dec. 18.

Blaze causes serious damage to Kent Island home

Eleven fire companies responded to this two-alarm fire at 2871 Cox Neck Road in Chester on Kent Island at 12:28 p.m. Sunday.

Kent Island Fire Department Chief Paul Schlotterbeck said the blaze caused serious damage to the luxury home, but was mostly limited to the garage and the wing of the home above it. He said a cause and estimated cost of the damages had not yet been determined this morning.
