After a week of deliberating, a jury found an inmate guilty yesterday afternoon of the 2006 first-degree murder of a correctional officer, making him eligible for the death penalty.

A man was found not guilty this week of lying to county police after fatally striking his neighbor with his car last winter.

Steven Orlando Smith, 46, told investigators Jan. 27, 2011, that he found Dawn Lynn Gable Bosse lying dead in the middle of the road near his home on Cross Creek Drive, near Highlander Drive in Glen Burnie.

Anne Arundel County Animal Control officials are searching for people who used a pit bull as a "bait dog" to train other dogs to fight, county police said. The case started on Thursday, when Animal Control officers were called to the 600 block of Andover Road in Linthicum, where there was an injured dog.

The dog, while affectionate to officers, was so badly injured that officials considered euthanizing him to end his suffering.
