The stakes are high on Election Day. We have the power to elect steady leaders to Congress. That is why I am supporting Andy Harris for Congress in Maryland's 1st District. I hope you will, too.

In Maryland, we saw the largest tax increase in our history last year. Today, politicians in Washington are talking about similar tax hikes on the middle class and small business owners. We need a congressman who will fight to protect Maryla...

Slot machines for education? That's an oxymoron.

As a public school teacher and member of the Maryland State Teachers Association, I am disappointed that we teachers have to stoop so low as to back slot machines with the hope of receiving more funding.

As a math teacher, I am even more disappointed at what that must mean about our failure to teach that unit on probability. In fact, wouldn't this whole idea of slot machines...

If it is not enough reason to vote for Dr. Andy Harris because Wayne Gilchrest endorsed him, then the endorsement for Frank Kratovil from The Capital should be. Using the bogus logic that Dr. Harris voted against that sham of a bill known as the clean cars bill is just plain stupid. Today's cars are 98 percent clean and that sham of a bill would only make them a fraction cleaner for a substantial increase. Andy Harris has my vote.

Andy Harris did not win one county on the Eastern Shore. Harris only beat Gilchrest because of the small portion...

Families are struggling to survive because the little bit of money that they get each month is easily wasted on gas.
Mr. St. John is a developer and obviously a very wealthy man. Kudos and congratulations to his accomplishments and generosity.

I was reminded as I read this editorial of others in this area who have donated millions o...

Over the weekend, a McCain sign was stolen out of my window in downtown Annapolis. I had thought that in the home of the Naval Academy, a sign for one of its most accomplished graduates would be safe.

I underestimated the lack of character of Democrats. After all, this is the party who wants to tax the 5 percent of taxpayers and small businesses who are already paying 57 percent of all taxes. Under Obama's tax plan, 40 percent of ta...

This quote is about the most to-the-point comment on our presidential race that I've seen so far:

She draws enthusiastic crowds and provokes visceral hostility in the media. The issue that is raised most often is her relative lack of experience and the fact that she would be '...

The upper 1 percent of taxpayers reported 22.1 percent of the income but paid 39.9 percent of all income taxes paid to the Internal Revenue Service in 2006, the latest year for which a report is available. The lower 50 percent of taxpayers reported 12.5 percent of total income but paid less than 3 percent of the taxes collected by the IRS. The upper 1 percent paid about the same amount of income taxes as the bottom 95 percent. Nearly 46,000,00...

We know the money will not go to the teachers and police - that's where the money from the lottery was supposed to go and look how long it took legislators to get their hands on that money.
This intense political contention highlights our current-day social and ideological instability, which started seriously affecting most Americans in the '60s. Our people are no longer united by common moral ideals based on reality; each indi...
