Hammond- Harwood House19 Maryland Avenue Courtesy of the Hammond-Harwood House Carter Lively, executive director The Hammond-Harwood House is the architectural masterpiece of renowned designer and joiner, William Buckland. Built in 1774 for patriot Mathias Hammond, the house epitomizes the sophisticated lifestyle of colonial Annapolis. With its ornately carved mouldings, this house is considered the finest example of five-part Georgian architecture in colonial America, featuring formal rooms with mid 18th and early 19th century furnishings and fine arts. The fine collections include portraits by the Peale family. A public museum since 1926, the Hammond-Harwood House Association maintains the house and grounds. Tours The museum is open to the public for guided tours on the hour. Special activities which focus on colonial history, art and architecture are scheduled throughout the year. Call or email for a current schedule of events and information on group tours. Hours May through October: Sun - Sat 12 pm to 5 pm (last tour leaves at 4 pm); November through December: Sun - Sat 12 pm to 4 pm (last tour leaves at 3 pm); January through February: Closed; March through April: Sun - Sat 12 pm to 4 pm (last tour leaves at 3 pm). Admission For the House and Gardens: Adults: $6, children (6-11) and students (Colonial Adventure Tour): $3, Senior Citizens, AAA, and Students with High School or College ID: $5.50. For group tours: Adults: $5, children (6-11) and students (Colonial Adventure Tour): $3, Senior Citizens, AAA, and Students with High School or College ID: $4.50.
