Peewees (girls)

Bowie 10, St. Anne's 9

Addie Allen and Allie DeGrouchy played as an awesome tandem in goal. Meaghan Ryan, Riley Rafferty-Lee, Morgan Dukes and Gianna Robey each scored solo goals. Keri Eiben had two goals and Kasey Stevens scored four.

Severna Park Jays 11, Bowie 10

Bowie was down 4-0 before launching a come back that fell just a goal short. Samantha Beitzell and DeGrouchy manned the pipes and did a great job against some tough shots. Allen scored the first goal to get Bowie on the board. Ryan and Abbie Bradford each scored a goal; Stephanie Heffron notched two goals and Stevens, playing every position sans goalie, led the team with five goals.

Midgets (boys)

Olney 4, Bowie 1

Bowie Midgets traveled to Olney to play a doubleheader. The first game was hard fought and at the half was tied, 1-1. The Bulldogs eventually slowed, however, and accepted the 4-1 loss. The lone BBGC goal was scored by Charlie Paul on an assist from Jay Eiben. A number of players scooped ground balls including Devin Morris, Jared Hyatt and Johnny Craig as well as defenders D.J. Matthews and Ryan Chesnick. Goalie Bradley Peters recorded 18 saves.

Bowie 4, Olney 1

In the second game Bowie jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, winning, 4-1. Scores were tallied by Paul, Tyler Ryan and Marcus Bullock, with assists from Morris, Jordan Stewart and Brady Thompson. Bowie won the ground-ball battle with Justin Doss and Zach Rutlin snagging five and six ground balls, respectively. Austin Hossick recorded 10 saves.

Bowie 10, Burtonsville 2

The Bulldogs played three games Sunday and got two wins. In the first game against Burtonsville, Bowie controlled the ball by winning two-thirds of the face-offs and grabbing 37 ground balls. Midfielders Luke Smith, Doss, Peters, Gabe Kuciemba and Morris kept the ball mainly in Burtonsville territory throughout the game. As a result of good passing and ball movement, goals were contributed by Smith, Morris, Hossick, Ryan and Paul. Defenders Brandon Baily, Chesnick, Rutlin and David Bowen did not allow a single shot on goal during the first half. Hossick and Peters shared duties between the pipes and together tallied three saves.

In the second game against Burtonsville, Bowie again stormed out to a quick start with goals from Stewart and Thompson (2), Paul (1) and Eiben (3). Bowie also won the face-off battle with Hyatt winning 6 of 8 face-offs. Bowie dominated on-the-ground balls with Morris, Robby Heffron and Eiben leading the charge. Hossick and Peters again shared goalie duties and together tallied nine saves.

WYL 7, Bowie 1

Bowie finished Sunday with its Midget B team facing a Washington Youth Lacrosse select team in exhibition play. The Bulldogs played hard but dropped a rough battle, 7-1. A number of Bowie players got involved and defenders Chesnick, Baily, Thompson, Rutlin, Matthews and Bowen tried to hold back a strong attack from the WYL team. Hossick recorded 16 saves and Ryan Neitzy, Luke Smith and Kuciemba snagged a number of ground balls. Heffron scored the lone unassisted goal.

Damascus 4, Bowie 2

The Midgets played a game against Damascus. Bowie dominated the face-offs with Doss, Johnny Craig, Stewart and Eiben controlling the center line. Unfortunately, Bowie failed to capitalize on its many scoring opportunities. Hossick was again strong between the pipes with 17 saves. Bowie goals were scored by Eiben and Paul, with an assist from Morris. Defenders Chesnick, Matthews and Baily each snagged three ground balls.

Bowie 6, Damascus 2

In the second game against Damascus, the Bulldogs doubled their shooting percentage and jumped out to a quick lead en route to a 6-2 victory. Bowie attackman Marcus Bullock notched a personal single-game record with four goals. Fellow attackman Kuciemba kept the offense flowing while recording a trio of assists and four ground balls while Neitzy and Stewart each chipped in a goal. Peters was strong between the pipes with 10 saves, and defenders Robbie Liberati, Rutlin, Bowen, Matthews and Baily limited Damascus to just 12 shots. Bowie middies Smith, Doss, Heffron, Nathan Ewing, and Thompson won a majority of the face-offs and kept the ball in the Damascus end of the field for much of the game.

Bowie 7, Burtonsville 3

Playing in their first night game of the season and third game of the day, Bowie came out shooting and ran away with a 7-3 victory over Burtonsville. Showing great teamwork, seven Bulldogs scored goals: Smith, Morris, Kuciemba, Stewart, Bullock, Eiben and Thompson. Assists were tallied by Smith and Eiben as well. Bowie goalies Peters and Hossick split duties for this game, and together recorded 14 saves on the night. Middies Ewing, Doss, Craig and Heffron did a fantastic job grabbing ground balls and hustling up and down the field. The Bulldog defensive trio of Matthews, Baily and Chesnick once again limited their opponent to few shots on goal.

Rockville 7, Bowie 4

Bowie faced off against Rockville for a doubleheader and dropped both contests, 7-4. In the first game Bowie and Rockville were even on shots on goal, but Rockville had the edge with ground balls and face-offs. Bowie attackmen Hyatt, Kuciemba, Paul and Bowen scored the goals, with assists coming from Ewing, Bullock and Hyatt. The game remained close throughout, with defenders Rutlin, Liberati, Aaron Smoot, Chesnick, Matthews and Baily doing their best to keep the ball away from the crease. Peters and Hossick again shared duties between the pipes, and together notched eight saves. Midfielders Doss, Smith and Ewing led the way with ground balls.

The Bowie Midgets have completed a successful regular season with a 13-9-1 record. The team will return to action May 17 for the Southern Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association tournament being held in Bowie.

Juniors (boys)

Olney 8, Bowie 7

The Junior Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker Saturday when host Olney scored twice in the final two minutes to take an 8-7 victory. Ben Gurtshaw led the Bulldogs with two goals and an assist. Matt O'Mahoney tallied two goals while Joe Consorti and Aric Harris each recorded a goal and an assist. Defender Mike Benson added a solo goal after scooping up a ground ball and traveling the length of the field for the score. Goalie Mik Evankovich stopped an astonishing 17 shots, many from close range.

In Sunday's game at Mitchellville Field, the Bulldog defense stood firmly against the Burtonsville attack. Zach Bretscher, Russ Bowen, Don Phillips and Jesse Edgin relentlessly stalked the ball at midfield while Brandon Speed and Sam Nelson protected the goal. Harris and Gurtshaw had two goals each while Consorti added a single score.
