Job fair
The Bowie Baysox, in conjunction with Prince George's County Economic Development Corp. and Maryland Job Services, will host a career fair at Prince George's Stadium May 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free.
There are scheduled to be more than 50 employers in attendance with companies representing various job sectors. A complete listing of attending companies can be found at www.baysox.com/career.
Host families sought
ASSE International, a student exchange program, seeks local families interested in hosting a high school foreign exchange student for the 2008-2009 school year. The students are between 15 and 18 years old, well screened and speak English. Each student is anxious to learn about the United States by living as part of an American family and attending a local high school. BSU commencement
Bowie State University will hold its 141st spring commencement featuring NBC News 4 anchor Jim Vance as the speaker Saturday at 9 a.m. Vance will address approximately 800 students who will receive bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees as well as certificates in multiple fields ranging from business administration to nursing. The ceremony will be held at the Bulldog Stadium, 14000 Jericho Park Road.
Rec scholarship
Prince George's County Federation of Park and Recreation Councils will award its 17th annual scholarship in parks and recreation this spring. The $500 scholarship will be awarded to a county resident undergraduate or graduate student who is majoring or intends to major in recreation at a recognized college or university.

Youth Leadership Bowie
Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for the 2008-2009 Youth Leadership Bowie program for students who entered their sophomore or junior years in high school in September 2007.
Students must live in Bowie (residing in ZIP codes 20715, 20716, 20720 or 20721) or attend Bowie High School. Applicants must demonstrate a record of community activity or show an interest in becoming involved in the Bowie community. Application deadline is Friday. Bowie Reads
Bowie Reads is a City of Bowie Education Committee's reading promotion program at Bowiefest. Used books are collected throughout the year and distributed free at the Bowie Reads booth. The committee still seeks donations of children's books, which may be dropped off at City Hall between 8:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays through May 26. Community members may stop at Bowiefest June 2 between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., and select a book to take home. For information, call 301-809-3068.
