Thursday Lacrosse: Severn bows out of IAAM title chase

Severn School was eliminated from the IAAM A Conference lacrosse playoffs by second-seeded McDonogh, 10-3.
The Admirals closed their season with a 9-5 record.

Alex Priddy scored twice to pace the Admirals.

CHOPTICON 13, GLEN BURNIE 6: Senior Chasity Dailey scored a team-high five goals, but her Gophers were eliminated from the regional playoffs by the Braves.

With the game all knotted up after the first half, Chopticon rallied for nine second-half goals while holding Glen Burnie to just two.

SOUTH RIVER 14, OLD MILL 3: Seniors Alana Glanell and Ali Mattingly each scored four goals to pace the Seahawks in the first round of the 4A/3A East Region Tournament. Glanell also had two assists, and sophomore Brooke Griffin scored twice with three assists.

Old Mill junior Chelsea Hauswirth scored a pair of goals.

South River will host Chopticon in the quarterfinals.

CHESAPEAKE 15, MEADE 4: Junior Lauren Gresham, along with seniors Kayla Carnaggio and Stephanie Miller each scored twice for the Cougars, who advanced in the Class 3A/4A East Region Tournament. Chesapeake had nine different goal scorers.

Senior Susan Cookman led the Mustangs with two goals.

Chesapeake will face Broadneck in the region quarterfinals.

ARUNDEL 21, NORTH COUNTY 2: Senior Randall Winter tallied five goals and two assists, and sophomore Hayley Ross added four goals and two assists in a lopsided victory for the host Wildcats in the first round of the 4A/3A East Region Tournament.

Junior Kasie White scored North County's two goals.

Senior Alyssa Fowler added three goals and assisted on six others for Arundel.

The Wildcats will play at Severna Park in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

BROADNECK 11, ARUNDEL 3: Freshman Mark Brashears and senior Chappy Cole both scored three goals to lead Broadneck's boys lacrosse team to a an 11-0 second half run as the Bruins posted a victory over Arundel in their 4A/3A East Region first round contest.

Two goals from sophomore Greg Korvin and one from junor Sean Fitzgerald gave Arundel a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime, but the Wildcats could not hold on to the lead.

Brashears added three assists, while five other Bruins notched one goal apiece, including junior Kyle Colleran who also added two assists.

"Our close defense shut their offense down," said Broadneck coach Clay White.

White also credited Arundel's defensive effort.

"Arundel played us very, very tough," he said. "They played very good defense."

Junior Houston Zemanski had eight saves for Broadneck while senior Evan Danahy stopped 12 for Arundel.

OLD MILL 17, GREAT MILLS 3: Scott Connolly scored three goals and 10 other Patriots notched goals in the 4A/3A East first round matchup.

Old Mill opened a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Sophomore Justin Ward netted two goals and added four assists, while senior Jakob Engelke added two goals to go along with an assist. Senior Eric Pantleo chipped in with a goal and two assists.

HUNTINGTOWN 13, CHESAPEAKE 9: Despite five goals from senior Norman Bechtel, the Cougars failed to get past Huntingtown in the first round of the 4A/3A East Region tournament.

Lucas Flaig added four goals and an assist for Chesapeake. Junior Lee Cook made 18 saves.
